Deep Space was founded in 2017 with the aim of establishing itself as a sustainable London club focused on high quality and spirited mixed ultimate, and to contend at national and international championships for years to come.

As a club, we learned a lot during our first two seasons. This past season, we won our first tournament (Sudsee, Germany), took the Southern Mixed UKU Regionals Title, and made it to the 3rd place match at Nationals. We are now looking for players of all genders who are spirited, competitive, and eager to learn and develop their game to join our 2019 squad to keep on learning together.

Going into our third season, we have outlined the club’s aims and ethos for the next stage of development:

CLUB AIMS

  • To compete at the highest level nationally and internationally
  • To commit to the Mixed Division of the sport
  • To develop club members towards international competition calibre
  • To uphold and respect the Spirit of the Game
  • To focus on equity and accessibility in our club and beyond

CLUB FOCUSES

Competition: Through player development, high level coaching and captaincy, and regular club trainings, Deep Space is committed to a professional approach to elite play. We want to balance this commitment with a friendly club atmosphere, making sure we enjoy playing together.

Mixed Ultimate:
Deep Space is committed to playing Mixed for the full season, and players will be expected to attend trainings and tournaments during the Open and Women’s season.

Player development:
We commit to development of all players in the club, and will have a core of high level captains and coaches who will be putting their efforts into the individual development of every player in the club. Opportunities to influence decision-making processes and shadow leadership positions are available to all club members.

Spirit:
Respect for other club members, our opponents, and the rules of the game is at the centre of Deep Space’s approach to training and tournaments. The club sets high expectations of its players when it comes to spirit, and will provide opportunities and support for reflecting on and improving individual and collective spirit.

Equity: Deep Space emphasises equitable access, leadership, coaching, strategy, and play. The club aims to ensure all members are valued and can contribute to their best abilities, regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, or socio-economic status. The club will aim to select even numbers of male-identifying and female-identifying athletes in 2019, and continue to emphasise the development and representation of women, trans and non-binary athletes in leadership and play.

Accessibility: We know that Ultimate can be an expensive sport, so we aim to be as financially transparent as possible, and to reduce economic barriers to play. Trials fees will be £10 for one trial, £15 for two, and we estimate that subs this season will be around £300, including tournament entry, training costs and kit, but not including travel and accommodation at tournaments. The club will endeavour to keep all tournament travel and accommodation costs low, and can offer bursaries or waive fees for those for whom financial cost is a barrier on an individual basis.

We hope to see you at trials, and into the season!
